About Dr. Sheff

I have been in private practice as a Clinical Psychologist since 1983. Presently my practice focuses on:

♦ Therapy and Counseling
♦ Collaborative Divorce
♦ Parenting Coordination
♦ Consultation and Training

My services includes working with all ages and with a variety of populations with additional specialty in marital/couples therapy, divorce counseling, and working with high conflict couples/families.

Historically, I have provided a range of forensic services for the Dallas and Collin County Courts, including:

♦ Psychological evaluations in child custody dispute cases
♦ Evaluations in cases involving allegations of child abuse, child neglect and child sexual abuse
♦ Expert witness testimony in family and civil court cases

My practice has provided significant pro-bono services consulting with many community organizations including: The Family Place, Dallas County Mental Health Association, Collin County Women’s Shelter, Dallas County Mental Health/Mental Retardation Center, and Dispute Mediation Services, among others. I have received numerous honors in recognition of my efforts and dedication to helping others.

I am a member of many professional organizations, where I participate on working committees and serve in leadership roles, including:

I graduated at the top of my class from Queens College/City University of New York, earning a BA with a major in psychology. I have both an MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The State University of New York at Stony Brook where I received top honors. I am licensed as a psychologist by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. I further earned a Graduate Certificate Degree in Dispute Resolution from Southern Methodist University. I continue to do specialized and advanced training in Collaborative Divorce, Parenting Coordination, marital/couples counseling and working with high conflict families.

Previously I taught in the Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Dallas for 14 years and have served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Psychology, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

I lecture and train on a regional and national scale, and often make radio and television appearances, especially in regard to family dynamics, family violence, and divorce.

I am married with two children, two dogs and a cat. My favorite activities are those that involve my family. I have always enjoyed serving as a parent volunteer for my children’s varied commitments, which are less now that both children are out of the home. I currently spend more of my leisure time reading, knitting, working out, and watching Dallas Mavericks Basketball with my husband.
